Life is often very challenging in Uganda, many children are born into poverty or loose their parents. Sadly there are almost 13000 orphans in the Bugiri district and it is estimated that there are over 2.5 million children in Uganda that are orphans.
Here are The Sorcha Children Foundation, we look after 50 children, we would very much like to be able to look after more but we currently don't have enough space or funds. We are planning this year to start to develop our plans for building a new orphanage that allows us to extend the safety and love that these children receive, and that is only achievable because of the kindness of our donors and those that already sponsor a child.
To break the chain of poverty, providing an education is the most important thing we can do, the majority of jobs require the applicant to have completed high school, even to work in a hotel requires high school to be completed. The children LOVE school and learning and each walk 5k to school and then another 5k back home, mostly barefoot, to get the opportunity to learn... and they never grumble, they know how lucky they are to get the opportunity.
